Sometimes talent needs some guidance, some restrain and some help in order to put ideas together and express whatever is in the mind of the artist. In this case the Lebanese band Oath to Vanquish handles different ideas at the same time and jeopardizes their whole message of sound obliteration because of their own aspiration of putting together all their inspirations and ideas in such a small package… only 32 minutes of length.

Applied Schizophrenic Science is an amalgam of styles and sounds but is death/Grindcore the core that keeps everything else from falling apart; the album is certainly powerful and well performed, with great song structures and a good balance of rampant aggression and understandable melodies that go beyond simple brutality as many underground acts do.

The problem with this album is the lack of direction, they do combine some black elements with great expertise, but those tracks seem to take you away from what should be a one way track of metal, instead it makes you look all over the place trying to find some meaning on the album as a whole.

From the beginning “Pear Of Anguish” just blast off right in your face, and keeps you energized, until they began to add some black elements distracting the listener, like they do in the following song; nonetheless the production and the precision in which this guys nail every note and tempo really inspires you to keep alert and try even harder to digest every riff, and believe me they are not bad riffs at all, is just that sometimes they are all over the place, forgetting to follow a certain path or idea.

A song that best resemble what this guys do throughout their 32 minutes of glory is Toxic Bowel Manoeuvre, a mid tempo death song with nice grind squeals, that swift gears from melodic guitars to groove moods, to plain savagery in only 3:57 minutes, and all this time the riffs simply kill.
